—Information accurate as of: build 904.83
The Map is an Experimental version only item that was newly implemented into Rust (as of Devblog 59) that allow the player to navigate the land with ease (and without using mods or hacks). It is a useful tool that maps out the land wherever the player walks.
The player can see his location and his surroundings, to aid navigation. The map can be drawn upon by the player to mark, for example, points of interest.
Other players will see the map as its previous owner saw it. Thus it can give information to other players, and will give such information whether or not the info is to either player's advantage.
How to use the Map Edit
The map can be equipped on the hot bar. It can be accessed at any time by holding the "G" key by default. Or, in inventory, right click on it. Once the map is opened, the player can right click and drag to see different areas of the map, scroll in and out to zoom and also see a drawing box at the bottom right hand corner of the window. The player's location is shown as a dot.
Select size, shape, opacity, colour in that order from top to bottom. Then left click and drag to draw on the map.
To remove drawings change the shape to the square with the cross and then left click and drag over what you want to remove.
