—Information accurate as of: build 904.83
The Survey Charge was introduced in Devblog 64 for Rust as part of a major mining update, featuring the Mining Quarry and the Pump Jack, the latter no longer deployable by players. It shows which and how many resources are available in the ground within an area with a radius roughly equal to 2.5 to 3.5 building foundations. It must be used before placing a Mining Quarry. It is used much like a Beancan Grenade, and is thrown onto bare ground. Then, the Survey Charge will explode, and may throw resources within the target area; evaluate which resources are received from the explosion to determine what your Mining Quarry will produce.
When the charge is used, resources will pop out of the ground, of a type and number corresponding to what may be extracted with a Mining Quarry. There may be zero to five of: Sulfur, Metal Ore, Metal Fragments, and/or Stone. It may also produce zero to three High Quality Metal Ore.

The Survey Charge can be crafted with:
- It takes 15 seconds to craft one Survey Charge.
- The Survey Charge seems to have a highly similar appearance to the Beancan Grenade, especially the icon.
- An exploding Survey Charge can rarely deal damage to nearby entities. Please note that it is capable of killing players.
- Looking closely, it can be seen that the inside of a Survey Charge contains a Beancan Grenade.
